Mumbai: India have decided to include Virat Kohli in the T20 World Cup 2024 starting on June 1 at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Texas, USA.
There have been many reports that Kohli may get the ax due to concerns over his form and especially his strike rate in the shorter formats, but according to Dainik Jagra’s report, the 35-year-old will make the final squad for the Worlds. cup
Kohli sought clarity from the World Cup selection committee and was named to open alongside the batsman at the mega event along with Rohit Sharma, head coach Rahul Dravid and chief selector Ajit Agarkar.
The former Indian captain played as an opener for Royal Challenger Bengaluru (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 and scored 361 runs in seven matches with 147 knocks.
Also, his only century in T20Is came when he opened the innings against Afghanistan and scored 122 in the T20 World Cup 2021. It was also the highest individual score by an Indian in the shorter format.
Since Kohli is almost guaranteed to open with Rohit in the World Cup, Jaiswal will be on the bench. Meanwhile, India will have to adjust their middle order with some options to look at.
The names being considered for the mega event are Rinku Singh, Shivam Dube and Riyan Parag, while Suryakumar is likely to take the number 3 spot for Kohli. Another name is Shubman Gill whose role in the mega show is yet to be decided.
Remember, India is in Group A for the 2024 T20 World Cup with Pakistan, Ireland, Canada and USA.
