Bollywood actor Imran Khan has returned home following his detention by Mumbai Police during a protest at August Kranti Maidan, according to a report by ETV Bharat Urdu published on October 11, 2026.
The actor, his girlfriend Lekha Washington and his cousin Zayn Marie Khan were detained on Saturday while participating in a protest organised by the Campaign for Judicial Accountability and Reform (CJP), according to the report.
After the detention, Washington shared updates on social media, assuring followers that the group was safe. She said they had to walk home because police were not allowing them to use their vehicle.
In one video, Washington said the police were not letting them go home or take a car, adding that the group was walking around the streets. In a subsequent update, she reassured followers that everyone was safe and on their way home.
Zayn Marie Khan also shared a video from inside a police van, where she was seen with the couple. Washington posted several updates after the group was detained.
Earlier, speaking to the media, Imran Khan said he had joined the protest as a Mumbai resident and was not representing any organisation. He questioned restrictions on people’s freedom of movement and the alleged suppression of their voices.
The actor said he was participating in his personal capacity and had no demands to make on behalf of any organisation. He described his presence as that of a citizen concerned about why people’s movement was being restricted and why their voices were being silenced.
