ISLAMABAD — Aleema Khan said on Friday that written orders had not yet been issued to shift former prime minister Imran Khan for specialist medical treatment, as the Supreme Court’s February 16 deadline for his examination approaches.

In a statement on social media, she said the family was still awaiting formal directions following the submission of a jail visit report before the Supreme Court. She reiterated the family’s position that Imran Khan should be examined and treated by specialist doctors at Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad under the supervision of his personal medical team.

The statement comes after the Supreme Court directed authorities to arrange an urgent medical examination for the jailed former prime minister following reports of significant vision loss in his right eye.

Supreme Court orders medical board

On February 12, a bench led by Chief Justice Yahya Afridi ordered the formation of a medical board comprising ophthalmologists to examine Imran Khan by February 16. The directive followed submissions by his lawyer, Salman Safdar, who informed the court that Khan had developed central retinal vein occlusion and retained approximately 15 percent vision in his right eye.

Khan, who has been detained at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi since 2023 in connection with multiple cases, had complained of blurred vision for several months, according to his legal team. Safdar told the court that the condition worsened despite prior consultations and treatment, including an eye injection.

The Supreme Court also permitted Khan to speak with his sons in the United Kingdom and allowed access to books and consultations.

Government maintains care is being provided

Government officials have maintained that Imran Khan is receiving appropriate medical care in custody and have rejected allegations of neglect. Authorities say all facilities available under jail regulations are being provided.

With the court’s deadline drawing closer, attention is now focused on the constitution of the medical board and the venue for the examination, as concerns over the former prime minister’s health continue.
