HYDERABAD: Illegal constructions and the unauthorised commercial use of residential properties in various neighbourhoods of Hyderabad have become a growing concern for residents, who are calling on authorities to enforce building regulations and protect residential areas.

Despite directives issued by the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) against illegal constructions, residents have continued to raise complaints about properties being used for commercial activities in several localities.

According to residents, the expansion of business activities in residential neighbourhoods has disrupted traffic flow, worsened parking problems and increased noise and other disturbances, affecting the daily lives of local communities.

Residents stressed that residential properties should not be converted to commercial use without complying with applicable laws and regulations. They warned that continued violations could make urban management challenges increasingly serious.

Citizens have urged the relevant authorities to take notice of illegal constructions and unauthorised commercial activities, conduct transparent investigations into alleged violations and take action against those responsible in accordance with the law.

Residents have also appealed to the SBCA and other relevant institutions to take effective measures to preserve the residential character of neighbourhoods, protect citizens’ basic rights and prevent unauthorised activities.

They said stronger enforcement of building regulations was necessary to address residents’ concerns and maintain a better living environment across Hyderabad.
