ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has suspended orders issued by the Pakistan Information Commission (PIC) that directed the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to disclose information relating to the salaries of its officials, members of the national selection committee, and the financial benefits provided to centrally contracted cricketers.
The interim relief was granted by Chief Justice Sardar Muhammad Sarfraz Dogar while hearing appeals filed by the PCB against two Pakistan Information Commission orders dated July 9, 2026.
PCB Challenges Information Commission Orders
The appeals were argued by Kashif Ali Malik, counsel for the PCB, who contended that the requested information extended beyond institutional expenditure and included confidential personal and financial details of individuals.
According to the petition, the information sought included salaries of PCB officials, payments to selection committee members, central contracts of national cricketers, match fees, allowances, and other financial benefits.
Financial Records Also Requested
The requests submitted to the Pakistan Information Commission also sought details of the PCB’s annual budgets and expenditures for the 2023–2025 financial years.
In addition, applicants requested financial information related to the Pakistan-South Africa One-Day International (ODI) series held at Iqbal Stadium, Faisalabad, in November 2025, including revenue generated from broadcasting rights, sponsorships, advertising, ticket sales, and other commercial sources.
Court Issues Notices
The Islamabad High Court issued notices to applicants Kashif Shahzad Khan and Naeem Ahmed, whose requests had led the Pakistan Information Commission to direct the PCB to disclose the information.
PCB’s counsel argued that the Information Commission’s orders were not legally sustainable and requested the court to set them aside.
The Pakistan Information Commission had directed the PCB to provide the requested financial, administrative, and operational information within 10 days.
Pending further proceedings, the Islamabad High Court has suspended both orders and adjourned the hearing.
