The International Cricket Council (ICC) has defended its newly introduced ICC Super Series qualification format for the 2027 ICC Men’s ODI World Cup following criticism over the tournament structure.

The new qualification system is designed for the three lowest-ranked ODI teams. Under the format, all three teams will compete in a Super Series, but two sides will be eliminated after playing just two matches, leaving only one team to progress in the qualification pathway.

ICC Responds to Criticism

The ICC introduced the Super Series as part of the qualification process for the 2027 ODI World Cup. The format has drawn criticism from some observers, who argue that teams receive only limited opportunities to compete before elimination.

Despite the concerns, the ICC has defended the structure, maintaining that the revised qualification system is part of its pathway for determining the teams that advance toward the 2027 World Cup.

The governing body has not announced any changes to the Super Series format following the criticism.
