ISLAMABAD: The ninth edition of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup will see the winner of the 20-team tournament win at least $2.45 million, the highest prize money in the history of the tournament, and a trophy at the Kensington Oval. Barbados on June 29.
Runners-up will receive at least $1.28 million, while the losing semifinalists walk away with $787,500 for a total prize of $11.25 million.
The four teams that fail to make it out of the Super 8 will receive $382,500 each, while the ninth, 10th, 11th and 12th teams will receive $247,500 each. The 13th to 20th participants will receive $225,000. Each team receives an additional $31,154 for each game won before reaching the semifinals and finals.
The 55-match event will be played over 28 days, across nine venues in the West Indies and the United States, and will be the biggest ever ICC T20 World Cup.
This year’s tournament format will see 40 first-round matches before the Super 8 reaches the top eight.
The four teams will then compete in the semi-finals in Trinidad, Tobago and Guyana, culminating in the final in Barbados where the 2024 men’s champion will be crowned.
ICC chief executive Geoff Allardice said: “This event is historic in many ways, so it is only fitting that the prize money for the players reflects this. Hundreds of millions of fans around the world will be entertained by players who hope to be out of this world.”
