ISLAMABAD, August 11, 2026: Higher Education Commission (HEC) Chairman Prof. Dr. Niaz Ahmad Akhtar has praised COMSATS University Islamabad’s in-house digital governance systems and called for their wider adoption across Pakistan’s higher education sector.
During a visit to COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI) on Tuesday, the HEC chairman reviewed a suite of digital tools developed by the university to manage student services, electronic filing, financial operations, recruitment and statutory governance.
CUI Rector Prof. Dr. Raheel Qamar led the demonstration and briefed participants on how the systems are being used to streamline administrative and academic processes across the university.
University officials said the digital platforms have helped reduce processing time, operational costs and paper usage across CUI campuses.
HEC Seeks Wider Adoption Across Universities
Following the demonstration, representatives from several universities discussed the possibility of adopting similar digital governance systems.
The HEC chairman asked CUI to facilitate participating institutions in implementing the systems on a cost basis. Rector Prof. Dr. Raheel Qamar agreed to support the proposal, paving the way for possible collaboration with other universities.
Prof. Dr. Niaz Ahmad Akhtar described the systems as a strong example of digital innovation in higher education administration and said such platforms could improve efficiency, reduce paperwork and strengthen institutional governance.
Universities Show Interest in CUI Digital Systems
The event was attended by vice chancellors, rectors and senior representatives from institutions including the University of Rawalpindi, Barani Institute of Information Technology, NUTECH, Bahria University, Air University, MY University, Federal Urdu University, Fatima Jinnah Women University, Rawalpindi Women University, University of Wah and Iqra University Islamabad.
The Inter-University Consortium for Promotion of Social Sciences Pakistan was also represented.
Several participants expressed interest in exploring similar digital frameworks for their own campuses.
CUI officials said the initiative reflects the university’s growing role in developing locally built digital solutions for higher education and could provide a practical model for institutions seeking to modernise administrative systems.
The visit concluded with participating institutions indicating interest in future collaboration, while CUI’s offer to provide the systems on a cost basis could lead to broader adoption across the sector.
