ABBOTTABAD, August 5: Leaders of the Hazara Province Movement have opposed the proposed merger of the Galiyat Development Authority (GDA) and Kaghan Development Authority (KDA) with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Culture and Tourism Department, warning that they will challenge the move through protests and legal action if implemented.
Speaking at a press conference at the Abbottabad Press Club, Hazara Province Movement General Secretary Sardar Muhammad Ramzan said the proposed merger would be resisted, arguing that it could adversely affect the administration and management of resources in the Hazara region.
Opposition to GDA-KDA merger
Accompanied by Sabir Khan Jadoon, Sajjad Kayani, and Sardar Mahmood, Sardar Muhammad Ramzan criticized the provincial government’s proposal, describing it as unfair.
He alleged that corruption and administrative irregularities existed in several institutions and expressed concern over ongoing construction and environmental degradation in the Galiyat region.
He also called for a transparent investigation into administrative matters, including the dismissal of seven employees, and raised concerns about recruitment practices in certain public institutions.
Demand for Hazara province
Sardar Muhammad Ramzan reiterated the movement’s long-standing demand for the creation of a Hazara province, saying it remains the group’s primary objective.
He argued that establishing a separate province would help address governance, development, and administrative challenges facing the region.
The Hazara Province Movement also urged both the provincial and federal governments to ensure equitable development and safeguard the rights of the people of Hazara.
No immediate response to the allegations or the proposed merger was available from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government at the time of publication.
