PESHAWAR, September 2, 2026: Hamza Foundation Welfare Thalassaemia Center and Blood Transfusion Services Peshawar has collected 198,469 blood bags over the past two decades, highlighting the scale of its blood donation and transfusion services for patients with blood disorders.
According to the foundation’s latest progress report, the blood bags were collected between July 2006 and August 31, 2026 as part of its services for thalassaemia, haemophilia and other patients requiring blood and blood products.
During the period, the foundation issued 109,313 blood and product bags to thalassaemia patients and 48,718 bags to haemophilia patients. A further 84,626 bags were supplied to government and private hospitals, taking the reported total number of blood and product bags issued to 242,657.
The foundation’s blood screening data also recorded cases of several infections and diseases among screened blood donations. These included 3,374 cases of Hepatitis B, 1,175 Hepatitis C cases, 171 HIV/AIDS cases, 677 VDRL cases and 65 malaria parasite cases.
The figures underline the importance of systematic screening of donated blood before transfusion, particularly for patients who require repeated transfusions as part of their treatment.

The foundation has so far registered 1,585 patients with blood disorders. The registered patients include 1,368 people with thalassaemia, 150 with haemophilia and 67 with other blood disorders.
As part of its thalassaemia screening programme for pregnant women, the foundation tested 464 cases during the reporting period. The screening identified 132 cases of thalassaemia major, while 210 were diagnosed as beta-thalassaemia trait and 122 were reported as normal.
The foundation’s two-decade record reflects its continued role in providing blood-related services to patients in Peshawar, particularly those living with transfusion-dependent blood disorders.
The latest figures also highlight the continuing need for regular blood donations, comprehensive screening and early detection programmes for thalassaemia and other inherited or transfusion-related blood disorders.
