ISLAMABAD, November 3, 2026: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Hammad Azhar has challenged his conviction in the General Headquarters (GHQ) attack case, filing an appeal before the Lahore High Court’s Rawalpindi Bench.

The appeal, submitted by Azhar’s legal team under Section 199, is the first filed against the sentences handed down by a Rawalpindi anti-terrorism court in the case.

His lawyers requested that the appeal be taken up for hearing on November 4. However, the court has yet to formally announce a hearing date.

Azhar is currently under arrest and remains in prison.

On March 7, 2026, the anti-terrorism court sentenced Azhar and 46 other accused to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment each and imposed fines of Rs500,000 per person in connection with the GHQ attack case.

Those sentenced included PTI leaders Omar Ayub, Rashid Shafiq, Zulfi Bukhari, Ejaz Khan, Shibli Faraz and Kanwal Shauzab.

The appeal seeks judicial review of the trial court’s verdict, with further proceedings subject to the Lahore High Court’s scheduling.
