KARACHI: Hamdard Schools, Hamdard University and other institutions at Madinat al-Hikmah celebrated Pakistan’s Independence Day with patriotic enthusiasm, bringing together thousands of students, faculty members and staff for a series of events.
The celebrations began with a flag-hoisting ceremony on the campus, followed by speeches, national songs and colourful tableaux presented by students of Hamdard Public School (HPS), Hamdard Village School (HVS), Hamdard Intermediate College and Hamdard College of Technology.
Dr Babar Khan, an alumnus of Hamdard Public School and Director Inland Revenue with the Sindh government, attended the ceremony as the chief guest.
President of the Hamdard Foundation and Chancellor of Hamdard University, Madam Sadia Rashid (Hilal-e-Imtiaz), also attended the event, along with Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Imran Amin.
Faisal Nadeem Mangoria, Group Head Finance, Syed Muhammad Arsalan, Head HR, university deans, principals of Hamdard institutions and heads of various departments were also present.
Students call for greater national responsibility
In their speeches, students emphasised that celebrating Independence Day should go beyond ceremonies and festivities.
They called on citizens to recognise their responsibilities and contribute towards the country’s progress and development.
The students highlighted the importance of collective effort in helping Pakistan achieve greater heights and building a stronger future for the nation.
Tribute to Hakim Mohammed Said
As part of the Independence Day activities, Madam Sadia Rashid, Prof Dr Imran Amin and other prominent personalities visited the mausoleum of Shaheed Hakim Mohammed Said, founder of the Hamdard Group of Organisations.
They laid a floral wreath at his mausoleum and offered Fateha in his memory.
Students receive prizes for Independence Day competitions
A special ceremony was later held at the main auditorium of Hamdard University, where prizes were presented to students who secured positions in competitions organised ahead of August 14.
The competitions included essay writing and speech contests based on the theme “Jashn-e-Azadi: Maarka-e-Haq se Taamir-e-Pakistan.”
Several sports competitions were also organised as part of the Independence Day celebrations.
The events provided students with an opportunity to express their patriotism while highlighting the importance of education, responsibility and active participation in the country’s development.
