Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Emir Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman has issued a special video message urging people across Pakistan to participate in the party’s nationwide protest on August 7 against inflation, petroleum levy, and what he described as the growing tax burden on the public.
In his appeal, Hafiz Naeem called on citizens to join demonstrations after Friday prayers, saying the protest is aimed at highlighting rising living costs and increased taxation. He urged people to gather at 4:00 p.m., stop their cars and motorcycles, and register a peaceful protest.
Protest Call Against Rising Prices
Hafiz Naeem said Pakistanis had previously demonstrated against higher electricity prices and should now raise their voices against petroleum levies and taxes on essential goods.
He claimed that prices of 27 food items had increased over the past month and argued that indirect taxes were placing an increasing financial burden on ordinary citizens.
Criticism of Petroleum Levy
The Jamaat-e-Islami chief said the petroleum levy affects millions of motorists, including low-income motorcycle riders, and alleged that the government continues to increase the financial burden on the public through fuel-related taxes.
He also claimed that the government collected Rs1.9 trillion through the petroleum levy over the past year, describing the tax structure as unfair to lower-income groups.
Appeal for Public Participation
Hafiz Naeem urged people to take part in the August 7 protest, saying public demonstrations could pressure the government to review its decisions on taxes and levies.
