MANCHESTER: Manager Pep Guardiola played on Manchester City’s pre-season defeat to Celtic in the US 4-3.
Considering the inexperienced squad at his disposal, Guardiola was pleased with how his players performed.
“I saw a lot of good things from the new and old players,” the manager said at the post-match press conference.
“It wasn’t easy, we have older players up front and at the back, four, eight or nine, who are so young. It’s difficult in one department when there are so many youngsters, but many good things, Oscar and Rico always at a high level.
“A lot of the things I saw were nice. We created chances but they are so good with the pace and quality they have. You have to live through those situations in the pre-season and we’ll take it from there.”
Speaking of Rico Lewis’ performance, Guardiola has backed the Bury-born teenager.
“Rico is exceptional and he can play in the pocket, maybe that’s his natural position, but we didn’t have players in the back four.
“He’s so dynamic, the first check, the vision, it’s really good and I was very happy with his performance.”
City will also hit AC Milan, Barcelona and Chelsea during the club’s pre-season tour of the United States.
