ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information Atta Tarar on Monday said that the federal government will observe February 8 as “Development Day” across the country. Speaking to the media in Islamabad, the minister emphasized that economic stability is closely linked to political stability, adding that this year has been significant for Pakistan’s achievements. “The stock market has reached record highs and the economy is on the way to recovery,” he said. The minister highlighted the positive economic indicators and said that encouraging news is coming from the economy. He emphasized the need for tolerance in politics, called for a reduction in anger both in the political arena and in sports, and espoused the spirit of sportsmanship. Tarar further elaborated that February 8 marked the beginning of Pakistan’s journey of construction and development and therefore the day would be celebrated every year. Besides, the minister expressed optimism about hosting the Champions Trophy in Pakistan and called it a positive step to revive the spirit of sports arenas in the country. “The performance of the national cricket team against the West Indies was outstanding and the Pakistan Cricket Board made a commendable effort to bring unity to the game,” he noted. He also appreciated the organization of Media Cricket League in the federal capital and said it was a welcome initiative. “Today’s final match was a great miracle. Congratulations to the winning team,” he concluded.
