October 9, 2026: Google has introduced Playground, an experimental AI-powered gaming platform that allows users to create playable games simply by describing their ideas in text, without needing coding or programming skills.

The new platform is designed to lower the barriers to game development by letting users explain what kind of game they want to build, choose a visual style and define gameplay elements through prompts. Playground then attempts to turn those instructions into a functioning browser-based game.

Users can start from a blank canvas, modify ready-made prompts or use guided support to shape their ideas. Once a game is generated, they can continue refining it by changing rules, characters, environments, physics and other gameplay elements through additional prompts.

Games can be shared, published and played across devices

Playground is not limited to private game creation. Users can share their games with friends or publish them to the platform’s Explore gallery, where other players can discover and play community-created titles.

Because the games run in a web browser, they can be played on both mobile phones and laptops. Some genres also support multiplayer gameplay and leaderboards.

The platform also connects with Google Play Games profiles, allowing users to create handles, like games, follow creators and track new releases from people they follow. Google says published games go through safety screening aligned with its community guidelines.

No coding required

Google says Playground is aimed at people who may have creative game ideas but lack experience with traditional game engines or complex programming.

The company describes the service as an experimental platform where users can build, play and share custom games in minutes using conversational prompts.

Google is also preparing integration with Unity Spark, which is expected to provide more advanced mechanics, higher-fidelity 3D capabilities and access to the Unity runtime for creators who want to take their projects further.

For now, Playground has launched for users aged 18 and above in the United States, with tiered creation access being rolled out according to Google AI subscription levels.
