Pakistani actor Gohar Rasheed has criticised the language and presentation of some Aurat March posters, saying demands for women’s rights can be expressed in a more respectful manner.

Speaking during a recent podcast, Rasheed said he supported raising awareness about women’s rights and opposed the objectification of women in films and other forms of entertainment. However, he argued that the tone of some placards displayed at the annual march appeared inappropriate.

Rasheed said women should not be portrayed as sexual objects and added that item numbers in films could also contribute to their objectification.

He maintained that campaigns opposing the objectification of women should avoid language or imagery that could itself be viewed as offensive or counterproductive.

The actor said important demands could be communicated in a dignified and civil manner without weakening the message behind them.

Comments Spark Debate on Social Media

Rasheed’s remarks generated mixed reactions on social media. Some users supported his criticism and agreed that certain posters used during the march could be expressed differently.

Others disagreed and argued that public discussion should remain focused on serious issues facing women, including domestic violence, harassment, sexual abuse and discrimination.

Aurat March is an annual women’s rights demonstration held in several Pakistani cities, where participants raise concerns about gender-based violence, workplace discrimination, unequal access to opportunities and other social issues.

The debate surrounding Rasheed’s comments reflects wider disagreements over how rights-based movements should communicate their demands while drawing public attention to sensitive issues.
