Islamabad – Pakistan strongly condemned the arrest of Ex-Senator Mushtaq Ahmad Khan by Israeli forces during the Global Sumud Flotilla humanitarian mission to Gaza. The former senator led the Pakistani delegation aboard one of the aid vessels when Israeli troops intercepted the convoy in international waters.

The Global Sumud Flotilla included more than 40 civilian boats and nearly 500 activists, lawyers, and parliamentarians from across the world. It carried food and medicine for Gaza’s besieged population. Organizers confirmed that Israeli forces stopped 13 boats. However, 30 others continued sailing toward the enclave despite the blockade.

A video released by the Israeli foreign ministry, later verified by Reuters, showed Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg surrounded by soldiers on one vessel. The ministry claimed that several boats were diverted to Israeli ports. It also asserted that passengers remained “safe and healthy.”

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif issued a strong statement condemning the interception. He demanded the immediate release of all detained volunteers. Moreover, he described the flotilla’s mission as a peaceful effort to deliver essential aid to Palestinians suffering under Israel’s blockade.

The Foreign Office echoed the condemnation and accused Israel of following “an ongoing pattern of aggression.” It further described the arrest as a violation of international law. Officials stressed that the flotilla’s mission was humanitarian and non-violent in every sense.

Meanwhile, videos shared by flotilla participants on Telegram showed activists holding passports and claiming Israeli troops forcibly moved them. Many emphasized their commitment to peaceful resistance. They also pledged continued humanitarian support for Gaza despite the risks.

The Global Sumud Flotilla has now become a powerful symbol of international opposition to Israel’s blockade. Its Mediterranean journey attracted worldwide attention. In addition, Turkey, Spain, and Italy deployed support vessels and drones to monitor the situation.

Pakistan reaffirmed its solidarity with the Palestinian people. It urged the international community to hold Israel accountable for violating humanitarian principles. Furthermore, the arrest of Mushtaq Ahmad Khan sparked outrage at home and renewed calls for justice as well as unrestricted access to Gaza.
