American actor Giancarlo Esposito has reportedly accepted Islam while working on a film project in Saudi Arabia, according to Saudi entertainment official Turki Al-Sheikh.
Al-Sheikh, chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority, said the Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul actor recited the Shahada after spending time in the Kingdom and working with Muslim colleagues during production.
A video shared on social media appeared to show Esposito praying with members of his production team at a mosque. The footage drew wide attention online, with fans and social media users reacting to the actor’s reported decision.
Al-Sheikh said Esposito’s decision followed what he described as a positive personal experience in Saudi Arabia, where the actor appreciated the hospitality, warmth and sense of community he encountered while working on the project.
Esposito is best known internationally for his role as Gus Fring in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. He has also appeared in The Mandalorian, The Boys and several Hollywood films.
The actor is currently in Saudi Arabia for work on Seven Dogs, a major production linked to the Kingdom’s growing entertainment industry.
