More than two decades after Karisma Kapoor and Abhishek Bachchan called off their engagement, fresh claims about the reasons behind the split have resurfaced following comments made by veteran actress Naseem Makri during a podcast interview.
The claims have reignited interest in one of Bollywood’s most talked-about relationships. However, the allegations remain unverified, and neither the Kapoor nor Bachchan family has publicly responded to the recent remarks.
Actress Shares Her Version of Events
Naseem Makri, daughter of late veteran actor Mukri, claimed that Karisma Kapoor’s mother, Babita Kapoor, was opposed to the marriage from the beginning.
According to Makri, Babita allegedly wanted financial assurances for her daughter before the wedding, including a substantial transfer of assets and provisions intended to secure Karisma’s future.
She further claimed that these reported conditions were unacceptable to the Bachchan family, leading to the end of the engagement.
No Official Confirmation of the Claims
The allegations shared in the podcast have not been independently verified, and there is no official confirmation from either family regarding the reasons behind the breakup.
Neither Karisma Kapoor nor Abhishek Bachchan has commented publicly on the latest claims.
Engagement Ended in 2003
Abhishek Bachchan and Karisma Kapoor announced their engagement in October 2002, but the relationship ended in January 2003, with no official explanation provided at the time.
Later that year, Karisma married businessman Sanjay Kapur, though the marriage eventually ended in divorce.
Abhishek Bachchan went on to marry actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in 2007.
