KARACHI: The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) hosted a ceremony with Inspector General (IG) Sindh Police Javed Alam Odho to commemorate Pakistan’s Independence Day, honor police martyrs, and review recent improvements in Karachi and Sindh’s security situation.
The event, held at the FPCCI Head Office in Karachi, brought together business leaders, industrialists, trade representatives, and senior police officials to reaffirm cooperation between the business community and law enforcement while discussing public safety and economic stability.
FPCCI Pays Tribute to Police Martyrs
FPCCI President Atif Ikram Sheikh opened the ceremony by paying tribute to police officers and personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty.
He said the sacrifices of police martyrs have played a vital role in maintaining peace, protecting businesses, and supporting Pakistan’s economic activity. He also expressed solidarity with the families of fallen officers and acknowledged their contribution to national security.
Business Community Calls for Stronger Police Cooperation
FPCCI Senior Vice President Saquib Fayyaz Magoon emphasized the importance of continued public-private collaboration between the business community and law enforcement agencies, saying support for the families of police martyrs should remain a long-term commitment.
Vice President Asif Sakhi highlighted the link between national security and economic growth, urging greater coordination between Sindh Police and FPCCI to strengthen investor confidence across the province.
Meanwhile, Muhammad Ikram Rajput, Convener of the FPCCI Sindh Regional Standing Committee on Law and Order, stressed the need for enhanced security coordination in Sindh’s industrial zones.
Crime Declined During First Half of 2026
According to Atif Ikram Sheikh, official data for the first six months of 2026 shows an 11.77% decline in overall street crime and major offences in Karachi compared with the same period in 2025.
He said reports indicated that murders decreased by 17.3%, while vehicle snatching dropped by 24.3% during the period.
IG Sindh Highlights Security Improvements
Addressing the gathering, IG Sindh Police Javed Alam Odho thanked the FPCCI leadership for its support and paid tribute to police personnel who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.
He said intelligence-led policing had contributed to a reduction in violent street crime, vehicle theft, and robberies in Karachi, while operations against criminal networks in the Katcha (riverine) areas of upper Sindh had also produced significant results.
The IG reaffirmed Sindh Police’s commitment to maintaining public safety and creating a secure environment to support investment and economic growth.
