MULTAN: Four police officials, including a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and a Station House Officer (SHO), have been suspended after a woman died by suicide following the alleged failure to register her rape complaint in Multan, authorities said.
The incident occurred in Qadir Puran, where the woman had accused three men of sexually assaulting her. The case has prompted disciplinary action against police officers and an official investigation into the handling of her complaint.
Woman Allegedly Waited Five Days for FIR
According to police, the woman, identified as Shamim Bibi, had submitted an application at Budhla Sant Police Station, alleging that she had been raped by three individuals.
Authorities said the First Information Report (FIR) was not registered for five days. Reports indicate that she experienced severe emotional distress during this period and later died after ingesting poisonous pills.
Police Officials Suspended
Following the incident, the Regional Police Officer (RPO) Multan took notice of the matter and ordered immediate action.
DSP Irshad Hussain, SHO Azeem Zulfiqar, the investigating officer Waseem, and the station clerk (Moharrar) were suspended over alleged negligence.
Police also confirmed that a criminal case has been registered against the four officials, while further investigations are underway.
Investigation Continues
After a post-mortem examination, Shamim Bibi’s body was handed over to her family for burial.
Authorities have not released further details about the investigation into the woman’s allegations or the circumstances surrounding the delay in registering the FIR.
