Field Marshal Asim Munir Meets Ulema to Discuss National Security and Societal Harmony

Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CDF), met with Ulema from the Ahl-e-Tasheeh community in Rawalpindi on March 19, 2026. The discussion focused on national security issues and the important role of Ulema in promoting societal harmony.

The Field Marshal emphasized the critical role of Ulema in fostering unity, tolerance, and national cohesion. He particularly highlighted their efforts in countering misinformation, sectarian narratives, and destabilizing activities supported from outside the country. Field Marshal Munir reiterated Pakistan’s firm stance on the use of Afghan soil for terrorist activities, referring to Operation Ghazab lil Haq. He underscored that Pakistan will not tolerate terrorism directed at its people and reaffirmed the country’s determination to eliminate terrorist infrastructure through precise, intelligence-based operations. He also called on the Afghan Taliban to prevent the use of their territory for terrorism targeting Pakistan.

During the meeting, the Field Marshal discussed Pakistan’s proactive diplomatic efforts to promote regional de-escalation and emphasized the significant role of Ulema in combating extremism and reinforcing national unity. He warned that religious sentiments should not be exploited to incite violence, particularly based on incidents occurring in other countries.

The Ulema present at the meeting expressed their strong support for peace and stability, condemning violence in the name of religion. They assured full support for Pakistan’s law enforcement agencies in their efforts to maintain peace and order across the country.
