The federal government has approved a 35% salary increase for university teachers serving under the Tenure Track System (TTS), with the revised pay package taking effect from July 1, 2026. The decision was endorsed by the federal cabinet following the prime minister’s approval.

According to an Office Memorandum issued by the Ministry of Finance, the revised TTS-2026 pay scales apply to professors, associate professors, and assistant professors employed under the tenure track system at universities across Pakistan.

Revised pay scales approved

Under the new package, the minimum basic salary for TTS professors has been increased from Rs394,875 to Rs407,230, while the maximum salary has risen from Rs684,450 to Rs712,030. The annual increment has also been revised to Rs20,320.

For associate professors, the minimum salary has been increased to Rs370,810, with the maximum set at Rs645,610. Their annual increment will be Rs18,320.

Assistant professors under the TTS will receive a minimum basic salary of Rs288,020 and a maximum salary of Rs553,820, along with an annual increment of Rs17,720.

Existing faculty to transition to new scales

The Finance Ministry said all TTS faculty members in service as of June 30, 2026, will be placed on the corresponding stage of the new TTS-2026 pay scales based on their existing salary level.

The ministry clarified that universities will be responsible for meeting the financial impact of the revised salaries from their own resources, and the federal government will not provide additional funding for the increase.

The revised package aims to strengthen Pakistan’s higher education sector by improving compensation for teaching and research staff and encouraging qualified academics to continue serving under the Tenure Track System.
