Focus on tax reforms and digital systems

Officials said the session aimed to inform business stakeholders about FBR’s ongoing transformation plan, including structural and technological reforms designed to broaden the tax base, enhance institutional transparency, strengthen internal accountability, and improve the efficiency and credibility of revenue collection.

Secretary Taxpayers’ Services Wing Abdul Hameed Abro, accompanied by Second Secretary (Media) Tariq Asad, gave a detailed presentation on FBR’s reform agenda.

Key initiatives highlighted during the briefing included Point of Sale (POS) integration, the Track and Trace System, digital invoicing, the faceless customs system, the cargo tracking system, direct port delivery, a reward and rating system, and the use of video analytics for production monitoring.

Technology-led oversight

Participants were informed that video analytics has already been implemented in the sugar and cement sectors and is currently being extended to the textile sector. Officials said these measures are intended to reduce human discretion, enable real-time monitoring, and improve transparency and accountability across operational processes.

According to FBR officials, the adoption of automation, artificial intelligence, and faceless systems has helped build taxpayer confidence by ensuring uniform application of tax laws, limiting direct interaction, and improving governance standards within the institution.

Participation from business community

Senior Vice President FPCCI Saqib Fayyaz, Vice President Amaan Paracha, Vice President Asif Sakhi, and Advisor on Tax Matters Danish Saleem attended the seminar. Representatives of chambers of commerce and trade associations also joined the session online and took part in a question-and-answer segment.

The seminar concluded with the presentation of souvenirs by FBR officials, who reiterated the department’s commitment to sustained engagement with stakeholders and to promoting transparency and accountability in revenue administration.
