KARACHI: A tragic incident was reported near Northern Bypass Dua Hotel in Manghopir, where a father drowned after jumping into the Hub Canal to save his son, officials said.
According to police, the incident occurred when the family had gone to the canal area for washing clothes. During the activity, the son slipped and fell into the water.
Father saves son but loses his life
Identified as 45-year-old Haji Nadeem, a rickshaw driver and resident of Lyari’s 36 area, the man immediately jumped into the canal to rescue his child. Police said he managed to save his son but was unable to survive the strong water current.
Body recovered and shifted to hospital
Police said the body of the deceased was recovered from the canal and shifted by Edhi ambulances first to the local police station and later to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for legal formalities.
Manghopir SHO Raja Zulfiqar Haider confirmed that initial findings suggest the incident was accidental, while further investigation is underway.
