Eid celebration brings joy to vulnerable children in Peshawar

PESHAWAR, May 20: More than 200 vulnerable children attended a special Eid celebration in Peshawar organized by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Child Protection and Welfare Commission to promote inclusion, care and child welfare ahead of Eid ul Azha.

Children from Zamung Kor Model Institute for State Children and the Special Education Complex took part in the event, which included cultural performances, skits, gymnastics and presentations on child protection. The programme aimed to share the joy of Eid with children in need and highlight support services for their welfare.

Secretary Social Welfare Shareef Hussain attended the ceremony as chief guest. Director Zamung Kor Noor Zar Ali, teachers, staff members and child welfare officials were also present.

Chief Child Protection KP Ijaz Muhammad Khan said the provincial government was working to ensure a safe and protective environment for children across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

He said the network of Child Protection Units was being expanded, adding that the chief minister had approved the establishment of units in five more districts.

Ijaz Muhammad Khan also appreciated UNICEF’s support for child welfare initiatives in the province.

Child protection services to expand

Addressing the ceremony, Shareef Hussain said initiatives for vulnerable children were important for promoting compassion and social inclusion.

He said a significant part of the upcoming provincial budget would be allocated for child protection programmes, enabling services to expand to 25 districts.

The event ended with the distribution of Eid gifts among the children.
