ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) suspended municipal institutions’ development funds on Tuesday, ahead of the February 8 elections.
The uplift funds for local government (LG) institutions will be suspended until the election results were announced, according to a statement from the vote organising office.
The new rule said that local administrations would only handle basic sanitation and sanitary issues across the country. The ECP also prohibited the launch of any LG development initiatives and continued work on previous projects.
Furthermore, local bodies and cantonment boards are prohibited from releasing tenders until the full electoral process is completed.
