Peshawar: As part of ongoing efforts to address the growing challenges of climate change and disaster risk in Pakistan, Islamic Relief Pakistan (IRP) held an orientation session titled “Incorporating Climate Change Adaptation and Disaster Risk Reduction Education into the School Curriculum” in Peshawar. .
The event aims to bring together policy makers, climate change experts, disaster management agencies, academia, textbook board officials, Ministry of Education experts, members of civil society organizations, the United Nations and community members to discuss strategies for mainstreaming climate change adaptation . and disaster risk reduction education into Pakistan’s P system, specifically the school education and training system.
Speaking at the meeting, Environmental Protection Agency Director General Sami ullah Khan said that by equipping educators and students with the knowledge and skills to address these critical challenges, we can help build a more resilient and sustainable future for our country.
“We are excited to convene this orientation meeting to highlight the importance of mainstreaming climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction education in Pakistan,” said Professor Dr. Mushtaq from University of Peshawar.
Organized by Islamic Relief Pakistan, the orientation session featured presentations by experts in climate science, disaster risk reduction and education.
Participants had the opportunity to learn about the latest research on the impacts of climate change on Pakistan, as well as practical approaches to mainstreaming climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction into the school curriculum.
The session also included interactive group exercises and model-building discussions to explore innovative teaching methods and resources for raising climate change awareness and building resilience in communities through school education.
Participants had the opportunity to network with like-minded experts and exchange ideas for joint initiatives to promote climate action and sustainable development in Pakistan.
