MUMBAI: Indian television actress Jyoti Bhatia has claimed that Dipika Kakar did not convert to Islam because of her marriage to actor Shoaib Ibrahim in 2018.

Speaking in a recent interview, Jyoti said Dipika was going through a difficult period in her life when she visited the Ajmer Sharif Dargah, where she found a sense of peace and emotional strength.

According to Jyoti, Dipika later made the decision to embrace Islam of her own accord and the decision was not connected to her marriage.

Jyoti said Dipika herself told her that it was entirely a personal choice. She also rejected the perception that Dipika had converted because she was expected to follow her husband’s religion.

She recalled that Shoaib stood by Dipika during her cancer diagnosis in 2025 and supported her throughout the difficult period. Jyoti added that Dipika has also supported Shoaib and his family over the years.

Dipika Kakar and Shoaib Ibrahim married in 2018. The couple have a three-year-old son, Ruhaan.
