A Mastung highway shooting claimed the lives of a district and sessions judge and his security guard on Thursday after unidentified attackers opened fire on their vehicle on the National Highway in Balochistan. Two others, including an additional sessions judge, were seriously injured, officials said.
According to local authorities, the victims were travelling from Quetta to Mastung when the attack occurred. Security forces launched a search operation following the incident, while the Balochistan government condemned the attack and ordered decisive action against those responsible.
Judge and Security Guard Killed
Deputy Commissioner Mastung Behram Saleem said District and Sessions Judge Abdul Hakeem Kakar and his gunman were killed in the attack.
He added that Additional Sessions Judge Tariq Lashari and another individual sustained serious injuries and were shifted to a hospital for medical treatment.
Attack Occurred on National Highway
Officials said the judges were travelling from Quetta to the Sessions Court in Mastung when their vehicle came under fire on the National Highway.
District Police Officer (DPO) Mastung said the area was immediately cordoned off after the shooting, and security personnel launched efforts to trace those involved.
Balochistan Government Condemns Attack
The Government of Balochistan strongly condemned the attack and directed law enforcement agencies to take decisive action against the perpetrators.
Authorities have not yet released further details about the attackers or the motive behind the shooting. The investigation is ongoing.
