ISLAMABAD: COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI) marked Pakistan’s Independence Day with a flag-hoisting ceremony, tree plantation and a leadership dialogue focused on preparing students for national development, technological change and future challenges.
The ceremony at the Islamabad Campus brought together students from CUI’s regional campuses and began with a recitation from the Holy Quran, followed by the hoisting of the national flag and the playing of the National Anthem.
Addressing the gathering, CUI Rector Prof. Dr. Raheel Qamar said universities had a responsibility to prepare young people not only for academic success but also for meaningful participation in Pakistan’s development.
He said CUI aimed to produce professionals, entrepreneurs, innovators and future leaders capable of applying knowledge to real-world problems.
Rector Highlights Role of Youth in National Development
Prof. Raheel Qamar said Independence Day should also serve as a reminder of the responsibility young Pakistanis carry in shaping the country’s future.
He stressed the importance of leadership, innovation, adaptability and public service, saying graduates must be equipped to respond effectively to a rapidly changing world.
As part of the celebrations, the rector and Islamabad Campus In-Charge Prof. Dr. Majid Iqbal planted a sapling on campus.
Similar plantation activities were also carried out by students from other CUI campuses, reflecting the university’s emphasis on environmental responsibility and sustainability.
LeaderSHIFT Session Connects Rector with Regional Campuses
The Independence Day ceremony was followed by an interactive session under CUI’s LeaderSHIFT programme, connecting the rector with students from the Lahore, Attock, Wah and Vehari campuses.
The session focused on building confidence, adaptability and leadership skills among students and preparing them to deal with emerging opportunities and challenges.
CUI said the programme forms part of its broader effort to strengthen leadership and personal development across the university.
CUI Focuses on AI and Adaptive Learning
During the interaction, Prof. Raheel Qamar also discussed the growing impact of Artificial Intelligence on education and the workplace.
He said students needed to remain prepared for rapid technological change and highlighted CUI’s move towards digitally enabled and adaptive learning.
The rector also referred to the university’s AI-based Adaptive Learning Model through the CUI Virtual Campus and its wider digital transformation initiatives.
He said CUI’s 6-C Framework was designed to help students strengthen the knowledge, skills and competencies required to keep pace with technological change while retaining creativity, critical thinking and other human capabilities essential for leadership.
The session underscored CUI’s broader educational vision of producing graduates who can not only adapt to change but also create opportunities, develop solutions and lead transformation.
The Independence Day celebrations concluded with a renewed commitment to preparing graduates who can contribute to a stronger, more progressive and prosperous Pakistan.
