RAWALPINDI: Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR) marked Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day with a flag-hoisting ceremony, cake-cutting and a series of activities highlighting national unity, youth responsibility and tribute to the country’s martyrs.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Qamar-uz-Zaman, along with the registrar, deans, directors, faculty members, administrative staff and a large number of children, attended the celebrations held at the university.
Addressing the gathering, the vice chancellor said Independence Day was an occasion to remember those who sacrificed their lives for the creation and defence of Pakistan.
He paid tribute to Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and his companions, saying their determination and struggle laid the foundation for the establishment of the country.
Vice Chancellor Highlights National Unity and Defence
Prof. Qamar-uz-Zaman said the armed forces remained a source of strength and pride for the nation.
Referring to Mark-e-Haq, he said Pakistan’s display of resolve and national unity had reinforced the message that the country was capable of safeguarding its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
He also described the recent Mecca Joint Defence Agreement involving Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye as an important development reflecting the confidence of friendly countries in Pakistan.
Youth Urged to Use Technology Productively
Turning to the role of young people, the vice chancellor said Pakistan’s future depended heavily on its youth.
He urged students and young citizens to use modern technologies in constructive ways and focus on activities that contribute to national development.
Independence Day Celebrations Extend to Islamabad
As part of the celebrations, the university’s Green Office, in collaboration with the Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) and Life Saver, organised an Islamabad sightseeing tour on a double-decker bus.
The vice chancellor, senior university officials, faculty members, staff and children took part in the tour and visited several landmarks in the federal capital.
Prof. Qamar-uz-Zaman appreciated the initiative, saying such activities added meaning to national celebrations and helped make Independence Day memorable for participants.
The programme concluded with special prayers for Pakistan’s martyrs, national security, prosperity and development.
