LOS ANGELES: Director Christopher Nolan’s upcoming epic The Odyssey is projected to open with more than $200 million worldwide, according to early box office forecasts, positioning it among the biggest film releases of 2026.
Industry projections estimate the film could earn between $90 million and $100 million in North America during its opening weekend, while global ticket sales are expected to exceed $200 million if current trends continue.
Strong IMAX Demand Ahead of Release
One of the key factors driving anticipation is the film’s IMAX presentation. The Odyssey is the first major feature filmed entirely with IMAX cameras, generating strong demand for premium-format screenings.
Reports indicate that tickets for several 70mm IMAX screenings sold out before the film’s worldwide release on July 17, reflecting significant audience interest.
Nolan’s Biggest Film Yet
The optimistic forecasts follow the commercial and critical success of Nolan’s Academy Award-winning film Oppenheimer.
With a reported production budget of approximately $250 million, The Odyssey is widely regarded as the most expensive film of Nolan’s career. Analysts say strong audience reception could place it among the highest-grossing films of 2026.
Star-Studded Cast
Based on Homer’s classic Greek epic, The Odyssey stars Matt Damon as Odysseus.
The ensemble cast also includes Tom Holland, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Charlize Theron, Jon Bernthal, and Benny Safdie.
The film is scheduled for worldwide theatrical release on July 17.
