FAISALABAD, November 8, 2026: A Chinese company is exploring plans to establish a truck assembly facility in Faisalabad, with an initial focus on importing commercial vehicles and developing after-sales services before considering local manufacturing in partnership with Pakistani investors.

The proposal was discussed during a meeting between a Chinese trade delegation and representatives of the Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI), where both sides explored investment opportunities in Pakistan’s commercial vehicle and automotive manufacturing sectors.

Li Zhong, who led the Chinese delegation, said his company intended to begin operations by importing trucks into Pakistan and establishing a network to provide maintenance and after-sales support.

He explained that the company would assess market demand and the performance of its initial operations before deciding whether to establish a local truck assembly facility.

The proposed manufacturing project could involve collaboration with Pakistani investors, although no formal investment agreement, financial commitment or implementation timeline has been announced.

Faisalabad emerges as potential truck manufacturing hub

FCCI President Arif Ehsan Malik welcomed the Chinese delegation’s interest and highlighted Faisalabad’s established industrial infrastructure as a potential advantage for automotive assembly and manufacturing.

He said increasing freight transportation requirements were creating demand for modern, reliable and cost-effective commercial vehicles.

According to Malik, Faisalabad’s industrial capabilities and business environment could provide opportunities for foreign investors seeking to enter Pakistan’s commercial transport market.

He also emphasised the importance of developing local automotive parts manufacturing alongside vehicle assembly to strengthen domestic industrial capacity.

The chamber encouraged potential Chinese investors to explore joint ventures with Pakistani businesses, particularly arrangements involving technology transfer and local production of vehicle components.

Such cooperation could help expand industrial activity and create opportunities for businesses involved in automotive parts, engineering and related services.

CPEC industrial cooperation offers opportunities

The discussions also reflected growing interest in industrial partnerships between Pakistan and China under the broader framework of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

The next phase of CPEC places greater emphasis on industrial cooperation, private sector investment and joint ventures aimed at strengthening manufacturing capabilities.

However, the Chinese company’s proposed truck assembly operation remains at an exploratory stage.

The company has not disclosed its brand, intended truck models, proposed investment amount or expected timeline for establishing an assembly facility.

Any decision to begin local manufacturing would depend on the performance of initial imports, market demand and the availability of suitable investment partnerships.

The meeting highlighted Faisalabad’s potential to attract automotive investment as Pakistani businesses seek greater cooperation with Chinese manufacturers in commercial vehicle production and associated industries.
