BEIJING: The Ministry of Emergency Management on Sunday activated a level four emergency response to floods in China’s southwestern Guizhou and Yunnan provinces.
In a statement, the ministry said that from July 28 to 31, most areas of Guizhou and Yunnan will experience heavy rainfall, with some areas hit by “extremely heavy downpours”.
It warned that the heavy rains will cause a high risk of flooding on small and medium-sized rivers, mountain torrents, geological disasters and severe waterlogging in urban areas.
In light of this, an emergency flood control response was activated in two provinces at 19:00. Sunday, he said.
China has a four-level emergency response system for flood control, with Level I being the most urgent response.
