BEIJING, March 26: BYD has launched the Song Ultra EV at a lower-than-expected price, introducing a mid-size electric SUV equipped with its second-generation Blade Battery and ultra-fast charging technology as competition intensifies in China’s EV market.
The model starts at 151,900 yuan (about $21,980), below its earlier presale price, signaling a pricing push in the fast-growing electric SUV segment.
The Song Ultra EV offers a driving range of up to 710 kilometres, with a second variant providing 605 kilometres. It is powered by a rear-mounted single motor producing 270 kW, enabling a top speed of 210 km/h.
Fast charging at the centre
The vehicle’s flash charging capability is positioned as a key feature. BYD said the battery can charge from 10% to 70% in around five minutes under normal conditions, while reaching near full charge takes approximately nine minutes.

The system is designed to maintain performance in extreme temperatures, with only a slight increase in charging time in sub-zero conditions.
Technology and safety features
The model comes with the DiSus-C intelligent damping system and a flat tyre stabilisation feature that helps maintain control at speeds of up to 140 km/h.
It also includes 27 sensors supporting advanced driver assistance functions, including urban navigation and automated parking.
Competition and demand
The launch comes amid intensifying competition in China’s electric vehicle sector, where BYD faces rivals such as Leapmotor and Xpeng in the mid-size SUV category.
According to the company, pre-orders for the Song Ultra EV have exceeded 21,500 units since early March, indicating strong initial demand.
The model expands BYD’s Dynasty lineup, targeting buyers seeking long range, fast charging and competitive pricing.
