Chinese automaker reaches major milestone as overseas sales surge and global electric vehicle competition intensifies

Islamabad: Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD has produced its 17 millionth new energy vehicle (NEV), becoming the first automaker in the world to achieve the milestone and setting a new benchmark for the rapidly expanding global electric vehicle industry.

The milestone vehicle, an all-new Seal 08 flagship family sedan, was rolled out from BYD’s Xi’an plant, marking another major step in the company’s global expansion in the new energy vehicle sector.

BYD’s latest achievement comes as competition in the global EV market continues to intensify, with manufacturers racing to expand production capacity, improve battery technology and strengthen international market presence.

BYD Strengthens Global EV Position

The company attributed its continued growth to technological development, a broad product lineup and an expanding global production and sales network.

During the first half of the year, BYD recorded cumulative sales of 1,808,511 vehicles, reflecting strong demand across domestic and international markets.

The company’s overseas passenger vehicle and pickup sales reached 789,367 units, representing a 68% year-on-year increase and highlighting growing international demand for BYD’s electric and hybrid vehicles.

Milestone Reflects Rapid Growth of NEV Industry

BYD’s production milestone underscores the accelerating shift toward new energy vehicles worldwide, as automakers invest heavily in electric mobility, battery innovation and cleaner transportation solutions.

Industry analysts view the company’s rapid production growth as a reflection of increasing consumer adoption of EV technology and expanding competition among global automotive manufacturers.

With its growing international footprint and continued investment in new energy technologies, BYD is positioning itself as one of the key players shaping the future of the global automotive industry.
