ISLAMABAD: China’s leading electric vehicle maker BYD has launched two new electric SUVs in Pakistan — the Sealion 7 and Atto 2 — expanding consumer choice at a time when rising fuel costs and urban congestion are driving interest in alternative transport.
The vehicles were introduced by BYD in partnership with Mega Motor Company at a dealership event, with bookings now open nationwide. The launch is significant for Pakistani buyers as it brings both premium and mid-range electric options to the market, while also supporting the expansion of charging infrastructure and related jobs.
The Sealion 7 is positioned as a premium electric SUV, offering a long driving range, high performance, and advanced safety features. One of BYD’s best-selling models in the Asia-Pacific region, it offers a range of up to 567 kilometres on a single charge, making it suitable for long-distance travel with lower operating costs than conventional luxury vehicles.
The Atto 2 is aimed at urban drivers looking for a practical and cost-efficient electric option. Designed for daily commuting and family use, it offers a driving range of 380 kilometres and significantly lower running and maintenance costs compared to petrol-powered vehicles, a factor that may appeal to households facing rising fuel expenses.
Both models are built on BYD’s proprietary electric technologies, including the Blade Battery, designed for enhanced safety and durability, and the e-Platform 3.0, which improves efficiency and charging performance. These features address common concerns around range, safety, and long-term reliability.
Speaking at the launch, BYD Pakistan Country Head Lei Jian said the company aims to make electric mobility more accessible by introducing globally proven models to the local market. Officials from Mega Motor Company said the growing portfolio reflects changing consumer preferences as Pakistan gradually moves toward cleaner transportation.
The Atto 2 is priced at PKR 7.29 million, while the Sealion 7 is priced at PKR 15.49 million. Introductory offers include home charging equipment and extended battery warranties, helping reduce upfront barriers for new electric vehicle buyers.
In parallel, BYD-MMC, in partnership with HubcoGreen, is developing a nationwide electric vehicle charging corridor from Karachi to Peshawar. The project is expected to play a key role in supporting wider EV adoption and improving long-distance travel for electric vehicles across Pakistan.
As fuel prices, emissions concerns, and urban mobility challenges continue to shape transport decisions, the launch highlights how electric vehicles are steadily moving from a niche option to a practical choice for Pakistani consumers.
