PARIS, Oct 13 — BYD has officially unveiled the Atto 8 at the 2026 Paris Auto Show, introducing the large seven-seat electric SUV with flash-charging technology, 764 hp of peak power and a claimed WLTP range of 653 km.
Known in China as the BYD Tang L, the Atto 8 was presented by BYD Executive Vice President Stella Li and becomes the brand’s first model equipped with flash charging for the European market.
The SUV uses BYD’s second-generation LFP Blade Battery with a capacity of 115 kWh.
Its standout feature is the flash-charging system, which can charge the battery from 10% to 97% in nine minutes. Charging from 10% to 70% takes five minutes, while the charging time increases by three minutes at minus 30 degrees Celsius.
BYD plans to establish 6,000 flash chargers in overseas markets by the end of 2027.
According to BYD officials, the Atto 8 is the most powerful seven-seat SUV in Europe, delivering a combined peak output of 570 kW, equivalent to 764 hp or 775 ps.
The electric SUV can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds and has a top speed of 240 km/h.
While BYD describes it as the most powerful seven-seater, it is not the quickest in the segment. The Audi SQ7, for comparison, reaches 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds.
The Atto 8 measures 5,040 mm in length, 1,996 mm in width and 1,760 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,950 mm.
While the Tang L is offered only with five seats in China, the Atto 8 will feature a three-row, seven-seat configuration with a 2+3+2 layout.
It also comes with a 136-litre front trunk that can be opened with a double tap, along with a projection-activated powered tailgate.
Sales of the BYD Atto 8 are scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2027, although pricing has not yet been announced.
BYD’s existing seven-seat Tang EV is priced at €75,000, or around $83,885, in Germany, although the company’s official website currently lists a reduced price of €47,990, equivalent to about $53,675.
In China, the BYD Tang L EV is priced between 222,800 yuan and 272,800 yuan, or approximately $33,290 to $40,765.
According to China EV DataTracker, BYD delivered 4,426 units of the model in China between January and August 2026, down 87.5% year-on-year.
