BEIJING: BYD has introduced the 2026 Sealion 05 series, rolling out updated hybrid and electric SUVs with improved range, faster charging, and upgraded in-car technology as competition intensifies in China’s EV market.
The new lineup includes the Sealion 05 DM-i plug-in hybrid and the Sealion 05 EV, aimed at offering better efficiency and performance at competitive prices. The launch reflects BYD’s strategy to expand its share in the fast-growing electric vehicle segment through technology upgrades and pricing advantage.
The Sealion 05 DM-i is priced between 97,900 yuan and 127,900 yuan, while the fully electric Sealion 05 EV ranges from 119,900 yuan to 145,900 yuan.
Faster charging, longer range
The electric version is powered by BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery and supports flash charging, enabling rapid energy top-ups within minutes. It offers a driving range of up to 630 kilometers and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds.
The hybrid variant uses BYD’s fifth-generation DM technology, delivering fuel consumption of 3.1 liters per 100 kilometers at low charge and a combined range of up to 2,105 kilometers.
Advanced features and smart driving
The updated models include enhanced driver assistance systems, with premium variants featuring the “God’s Eye C” system. Optional LiDAR integration allows access to higher-level assisted driving capabilities, including urban navigation support.
The vehicles retain BYD’s Ocean design language, with refined dimensions and a 2,770 mm wheelbase, along with an upgraded intelligent cockpit system.
Expanding EV lineup
The launch strengthens BYD’s Ocean series portfolio and underlines its focus on combining affordability with advanced technology in a highly competitive EV market.
