SYLHET: Bangladesh climbed to fifth place in the ICC World Test Championship standings after completing a 2-0 Test series sweep over Pakistan with a 78-run win at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.
The result marked Bangladesh’s first home Test series victory over Pakistan and pushed India down to sixth in the WTC table. Pakistan remained eighth after another defeat in the ongoing cycle.
Chasing 437, Pakistan resumed the final day on 316 for seven but were bowled out for 358 in 97.2 overs. The visitors added only 42 runs on the fifth day as Bangladesh’s bowlers sealed a historic win.
Left-arm spinner Taijul Islam led Bangladesh’s attack with six wickets in Pakistan’s second innings, while fast bowler Nahid Rana took two wickets.
Bangladesh’s latest success follows their 2-0 Test series win in Pakistan in 2024, giving them back-to-back series sweeps over Pakistan.
The victory lifted Bangladesh’s win-loss percentage to 58.33 in the World Test Championship standings, moving them ahead of India and strengthening their position in the race for the final.
