LAHORE: After Pakistan’s poor performance in the T20 World Cup 2024, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) may make some changes in the national cricket team.
But, according to sources, Babar Azam will continue to be the white ball cricket captain after the World Cup.
In particular, the green shirt suffered a historic defeat against the USA on June 6 and also faced India on June 9 in the ongoing T20 World Cup where they lost by 6 runs.
Meanwhile, Pakistan struggled in their match against Canada on Tuesday (June 11). They managed to chase down 107 runs in just 17.3 overs.
Earlier, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi was asked about the Board’s view on Pakistan’s consistent inactivity.
“This team is still playing in the World Cup; the nation should be patient with them. “There are still games to be played and we have to wait for the results of the tournament.”
Pakistan will face Ireland on Sunday (June 16) at Central Broward Regional Park.
For Pakistan, the road to Super 8 is tough but not impossible.
The following results from Group A will ensure Pakistan’s selection in the Super 8 World Cup 2024:
June 14: USA vs Ireland: – Ireland won
June 15: Canada vs India – India won
June 16: Ireland vs Pakistan – Pakistan win
If all the above mentioned matches are as counted, Pakistan will get four points from four matches. India will have eight points and USA will have the same points as Pakistan. At the end of the group stage, Canada and Ireland will each receive two points.
However, to improve their net rate, Pakistan will have to count on a win against Ireland by a huge margin as their points will be at par with USA, so the net work rate will be implemented. Also, Green Shirts and Pakistan fans should hope that the USA lost their last game against Ireland and were not washed away by the rain.
