Pakistan Test captain Babar Azam has said he will not compromise on discipline, fitness, and performance as he resumes leadership of the national Test side, outlining his core principles for the team’s future direction.

In an interview on a local sports programme, Babar said his focus as captain will remain firmly on maintaining standards in these three areas, adding that they are essential for consistent team performance at the international level. His comments came shortly after his reappointment as Pakistan’s Test captain on Sunday.

Reflecting on his previous captaincy stint, Babar said the experience helped him develop greater clarity and maturity. He added that he has reviewed past decisions and rebuilt his mindset with a more structured and positive approach.

He also stressed the importance of supporting young players in the squad, saying Pakistan’s team includes several domestic performers who need confidence and backing to handle the pressures of international cricket.

Babar said the recent training camp at the National Cricket Academy focused on fitness, fielding, and handling pressure situations, particularly with upcoming tours of the West Indies and England in mind. He noted that preparation was tailored to expected playing conditions.

On criticism and public pressure, the captain said players should focus on constructive feedback while avoiding negative noise, adding that consistency and routine are key for young cricketers aiming to represent Pakistan.
