RAWALPINDI: Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir met two members of the United States House of Representatives at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi on Monday, with talks focusing on regional security, bilateral defence ties and opportunities to expand economic cooperation.

Regional Security and Defence Ties Discussed Focus on Trade and Private-Sector Partnerships

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations, US Representatives Ryan Zinke of Montana and Michael Baumgartner of Washington held discussions with the Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces on matters of mutual interest.

Zinke represents Montana’s 1st Congressional District, while Baumgartner represents Washington state’s 5th Congressional District in the US House of Representatives.

Regional Security and Defence Ties Discussed

The meeting covered the regional security environment and existing defence cooperation between Pakistan and the United States.

Both sides also explored ways to strengthen institutional engagement and identify new areas of collaboration, the military’s media wing said.

Field Marshal Munir highlighted Pakistan’s economic potential and stressed that lasting regional stability was closely linked to economic development, stronger trade relations and improved connectivity.

He also briefed the visiting delegation on structural reforms being undertaken in Pakistan to improve the business environment and attract foreign investment.

Focus on Trade and Private-Sector Partnerships

The two US lawmakers acknowledged Pakistan’s role in promoting regional stability and strengthening economic resilience, according to the ISPR statement.

The discussions also covered potential opportunities for private-sector partnerships, bilateral investment and increased trade between Pakistan and the United States.

The meeting reflected a broader effort by both countries to expand ties beyond traditional defence and security cooperation by placing greater emphasis on commerce, investment and economic connectivity.

The visiting delegation thanked Pakistan’s military leadership for its hospitality and expressed support for deeper economic, commercial and institutional relations between the two countries.

Pakistan and the United States maintain longstanding defence ties, while both governments have increasingly emphasised trade, investment, energy and technology as potential areas for broader bilateral cooperation.
