RAWALPINDI, September 28, 2026: Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir on Monday shared Pakistan’s perspective on the two-decade war in Afghanistan during a meeting with a delegation of the US Afghanistan War Commission at General Headquarters (GHQ), Rawalpindi.
The delegation, led by the commission’s co-chairs, Shamila N. Chaudhary and Dr Colin F. Jackson, is reviewing the United States’ 20-year engagement in Afghanistan.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed matters of mutual interest, including Pakistan’s support during the conflict, the regional security situation and developments in Afghanistan.
Field Marshal Munir outlined Pakistan’s perspective on the security dynamics that shaped the Afghan war and highlighted the challenges the country faced throughout the prolonged conflict.
He emphasised the importance of incorporating regional perspectives, particularly Pakistan’s experience, into the commission’s assessment of the war’s strategic, diplomatic and operational dimensions.
The discussions focused on issues relevant to the commission’s ongoing review of the US engagement in Afghanistan and the wider regional implications of the conflict.
The visiting delegation acknowledged Pakistan’s longstanding role and sacrifices during the war in Afghanistan.
It also appreciated Pakistan’s continued contribution to regional peace and stability.
The meeting provided the commission with an opportunity to hear Pakistan’s perspective as it examines the United States’ two-decade involvement in Afghanistan.
