RAWALPINDI: Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir said on Thursday that security forces would continue targeted operations against militant groups and their facilitators until terrorist networks threatening Pakistan were dismantled.
Speaking to participants of the 20th National Workshop Balochistan at General Headquarters in Rawalpindi, the Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces said sustained action by security forces and law enforcement agencies, backed by public support, was essential for lasting peace in Balochistan.
According to a statement issued by Inter-Services Public Relations, Munir said operations against groups officially described as Fitna al Khawarij and Fitna al Hindustan would continue with full resolve.
He said Pakistan remained committed to eliminating terrorist infrastructure wherever it posed a threat to the country and its citizens.
Foreign-Backed Proxies Accused of Fueling Violence
The army chief said foreign-sponsored proxies had repeatedly attempted to create unrest, weaken stability and disrupt peace in Balochistan.
He said such efforts would be countered through what he described as a firm response by the armed forces, supported by national unity and public resilience.
The ISPR statement did not identify any specific country or organisation allegedly backing the groups.
Balochistan Described as Key to Pakistan’s Future
Munir described Balochistan as a province rich in natural resources and praised the resilience and patriotism of its people.
He said development initiatives being undertaken by the federal and provincial governments were intended to improve the province’s social and economic conditions through an inclusive and people-focused approach.
The army chief also highlighted the role of civil society, academia, the media and young people in strengthening national integration and supporting long-term peace and development in Balochistan.
He said national unity and perseverance would be critical in shaping Pakistan’s future direction.
The session concluded with a discussion between the army chief and workshop participants, who reaffirmed their commitment to Pakistan’s stability, development and sovereignty, according to ISPR.
