RAWALPINDI: Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, held high-level talks with Iran’s leadership during a day-long visit to the country as Pakistan stepped up diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the ongoing US-Iran conflict and restoring regional stability.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi accompanied the Field Marshal during the visit, which focused on de-escalation, reopening the Strait of Hormuz and finding a negotiated path towards ending the conflict, according to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Tuesday.
During the visit, Field Marshal Asim Munir called on Iranian President Dr Masoud Pezeshkian and held meetings with senior Iranian political and security officials.
He also met Mohsen Rezaei, representative of the Supreme Leader on Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni.
According to ISPR, the discussions focused on measures to prevent further escalation, facilitate the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and accelerate efforts to bring the conflict to an end.
Both sides also exchanged views on broader regional peace and explored ways to reach a negotiated settlement to ongoing disputes.
The Strait of Hormuz remains a key focus of regional diplomacy because of its strategic importance for international shipping and global energy supplies.
ISPR said the Iranian leadership appreciated Pakistan’s constructive role and sincere efforts to facilitate dialogue, promote de-escalation and support a peaceful resolution of the conflict.
Pakistan has been pursuing diplomatic engagement aimed at reducing regional tensions and encouraging a negotiated settlement amid continued instability in the Middle East.
The latest visit reflects Islamabad’s efforts to maintain communication with key regional stakeholders and contribute to initiatives seeking a permanent end to the conflict.
Field Marshal Asim Munir was received on arrival by Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni along with other senior Iranian civilian and military officials.
The visit concluded after a series of meetings focused on regional peace, de-escalation and diplomatic efforts to bring the US-Iran conflict to an end.
