The School of Visual & Performing Arts (SOVAPA) at the Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi successfully concluded the sixth edition of its Alumni Series with a sold-out run of The Odd Couple, earning widespread praise from theatre lovers.
The Urdu adaptation of the internationally acclaimed comedy by legendary American playwright Neil Simon was presented by Babar Jamal and directed by Arbaz Sheikh.
Staged at Studio II, Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi, from July 31 to August 2, the 90-minute production played to full-capacity audiences throughout its three-day run.
A Classic Comedy with a Local Touch
The play follows the story of two divorced friends who decide to live together after the breakdown of their marriages. Their contrasting personalities, habits, and lifestyles lead to a series of hilarious misunderstandings and entertaining situations.
While filled with humor and witty dialogue, the production also explored themes of:
- Friendship
- Tolerance
- Companionship
- Human relationships
Strong Performances Earn Standing Ovation
The production featured an ensemble cast including:
- Usama Ranjha as Gullu
- Asad Gojar as Danish
- Sara Taqi as Sheeza
- Nafees Qamar as Fiza
- Muhammad Raza as Babloo
- Hamza Ranjha as the Policeman
- Adil Shakir as Shaukat
Each performer received enthusiastic applause for their performances, with audiences praising the cast’s chemistry, comic timing, and energetic stage presence.
