MUMBAI: Bollywood actor Anushka Sharma reportedly played an unexpected role in transforming the fortunes of a small Mumbai restaurant after ordering chole bhature for her husband, Indian cricketer Virat Kohli.
The restaurant, ‘Delhi Se’, was reportedly struggling financially in 2022 and was carrying debt of around INR 1.8 million. According to its owners, they were even preparing to shut down the business.
The turning point came after comedian Abhishek Upmanyu praised the restaurant’s chole bhature on Instagram. Anushka subsequently ordered the dish for Virat Kohli and later praised the food on social media.
According to the restaurant’s owners, Anushka’s social media post generated significant public interest, with customers beginning to line up at the restaurant.
The business has since reportedly expanded to four branches, with the owners claiming that around 3,000 plates are now sold daily and monthly sales have reached as much as INR 20 million.
The story has since attracted attention online as an example of how a social media endorsement from a high-profile celebrity can create a major boost for a small food business.
